I love big sport events. They make me imagine upsets and miracles and dreams that come true.
You see, being talented or favoured to win has little to do with what actually happens.
It has to do with guts and focus and courage and determination…
…the kind that makes you cry as you watch athletes cross the finish line at an Ironman competition, or cheer when the lowest ranked college basketball team is the last team standing at the end of NCAA basketball’s March Madness.
You’ve just gotta stay in the game. It will be someone else who cracks first, but not you.
Sure, you might feel nerves, but they just mean you are ready to take advantage of any opportunities that come your way.
You aren’t wasting your time focusing on doubts. There’s no pressure on you. You are all in, committed, and excited about the challenge.
It’s not about the stats or the odds. Otherwise why play? The greatest sports stories in history are about the underdog overcoming tremendous odds. Those are the stories that make us cheer.
Because on any given Sunday anything can happen. Believe it can happen to you.
