It’s easy to look back at what we could’ve done better and what we are going to achieve in the New Year, but I propose we do things a bit differently this season.
No matter what, 2015 was good
Look back at 2015 and count your blessings. No matter whether you think of 2015 as a good year or bad one, remember that most of us live in the top 3% of the world’s wealth. We have clean water, food in abundance, a roof over our head and can pursue our passions pretty much at will. There are opportunities galore for those willing to lean in and take them. Not everything will go our way but in the big picture, we are still very fortunate.
No matter what, 2016 will be better
I know you will be better in 2016 than you were in 2015. You will be more experienced, have more perspective and will add to your list of achievements.
Dream the dream
But ask yourself this…what dreams do you want to pursue? What is out of your comfort zone, doesn’t feel safe? What things keep poking and prodding you? Aim for those things. Take a chance. What would the first step be?
(Just as a little reminder that dreams can come true, here is the YouTube link to Susan Boyle’s big moment on Britain’s Got Talent back in 2009 when she sung “I Dreamed a Dream”.)
The year of significance
You know how some years are the year of the sweater? The year everyone gives you a sweater at Christmas? Let’s take it one step further. Let’s make 2016 the year of significance.
What things will you do in 2016 that reach beyond the scope of your own achievements and change the lives of others? How about being not only a person of achievement but a person of significance? How can you be a positive influence in your corner of the world? I’ve had clients who’ve started groups on Facebook for health and fitness, clients who’ve started scholarship funds for those in financial need, clients who work with junior development in sport, you name it. They have not only achieved their goals, but have become influencers, thought leaders, people who make a difference in this world and make it a better place.
My dream for you
So dream big, be courageous, go out and make life a little better for others in your corner of the world, and remember that no matter what happens, there’s a lot in this life to be grateful for.
Merry Christmas to you and yours and I wish you a very abundant, prosperous and significant 2016.
